Award Lifecycle
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Requirements (2 CFR 200) require federal awarding agencies to ensure that all data produced under an award will be made available to the public through the procedures established under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Federal funding agencies increasingly require the inclusion of a data management plan in a grant proposal as well as evidence of data management, archiving, or sharing.
Georgia Tech faculty and staff writing proposals that require data management plans should visit the Georgia Tech library's Research Data Management Page for more information and training on data management.
Managing Sensitive Data
It is also important for faculty and other researchers to protect sensitive data, particularly those data that involve human subjects and for which confidentiality is essential. Detailed safeguard recommendations for protecting sensitive data are posted on the Office of Information Technology site.
